 Money
Are you a DJ that has built a good reputation through the types of songs you play at an event or through your ability to entertain any type of crowd? Then you are definitely on your way to making MORE money at your craft. You need to be passionate about music. But there are many factors…here are a few:
Your years of experience is one factor that determines how much you can charge or make at any given event. You can have a set price for an event, but due to your “ability to entertain”, tips are completely another ball game. Your ability to be able to play a song someone requests is a factor that plays a role in tips. Having a vast library of music (of all genres) is built over time, but well worth investing into. You need to be able to cover a wide range of styles.
A good DJ is outgoing and needs to react with the crowd.
 This Is Actually My Hand!
As you can see from the photo above, leaving a gig where your client is totally satisfied can be very rewarding. The money is worth it…IF AND ONLY IF you love what you do. (and that’s in ANY field!) You CAN make money by being a full time DJ. Be able to play different types of events and venues, like birthday parties, weddies, and clubs.
You Can Make A Living Being A Full Time DJ.
DJing is not an easy job. Networking is a must in the field of entertainment. You must learn how to market yourself. What you put into any business is what you will get out of it! If you are passionate about your craft, you will succeed.

DJ gear…there’s so much of it! Highly skilled (and highly paid) DJs get a lot of respect from the crowd due to their mastery of the different types of disc jockey equipment. From club lighting and DJ systems to black lights, it’s really quite simple!!
Here is a small list of available DJ equipment:
DJ packages, like dual cd/mp3/usb mixing consoles
computer DJ gear, like Rane Serato Scratchlive MP3 software
DJ mixers
DJ cd players (CD players are quite good for DJing.)
DJ turntables (The most famous piece of DJ equipment is the Technics 1200/1210 turntable.)
DJ cartridges and styli
DJ headphones
DJ processors and effects
DJ cases and coffins
DJ tables and stands
DJ appearance products, like glow boxes for truss sleeves
DJ music
DJ books and videos
DJ party props, like color tubes and color balls
One thing DJ’s world wide understand is that quality is the biggest factor when buying the latest DJ gear. Earth shaking sound and brilliantly colored crisp looking laser and lighting effects will impress even those with the biggest expectations. Having a set of turntables at home means that you can easily do enough practice to be ready to bust up a dance floor in a few months. Being a DJ means using DJ equipment to maximize the smooth transition between tracks. So, let’s go! The time to be a DJ is now!

Microphones are an important and often overlooked piece of DJ equipment. Every professional DJ should have microphones. DJs need microphones to run a wide range of events – proms, parties, corporate events, weddings, family reunions – in fact any gig that requires speech over music. There are many types of microphones. Here are some examples:
handheld usb microphones
wireless microphones
usb desktop microphones
condenser microphones
speaker microphones
noise-cancellation microphones for voice recorders
lapel microphones
omnidirectional microphones
wired microphones
Wireless microphones are good at getting your voice out to the audience while allowing you complete freedom of movement. Shure microphones, both wired and wireless, offer the clearest sound with lightweight sleek designs and set the industry standard with their high quality performance. A few other companies that sell DJ microphones, wired and wireless, are Gemini, Samson and Behringer.
Every DJ should own a failsafe handheld wired cardioid microphone to plug directly into their sound system. A good wired microphone can overcome unexpected interference that can hinder wireless transmission. It is an investment that can last for years.
We recommend at least two reliable microphones – one wireless headset microphone and one handheld mic – as basic equipment for any professional DJ who wants to make the most out of his or her spinning skills.

Every professional DJ should have DJ lights. There are numerous specialty stores for affordable DJ effect lighting. When using quality stage lighting, clamps are sometimes needed. O-clamps securely mount fixtures to your truss. They don’t scuff, scratch, score, or dent your truss. There are also numerous types of lighting. Some examples include:
black lights
chauvet lighting
color changers
followspots
intelligent lighting
lasers
lava lamps
LED lighting
spotlights/par cans
strobe lights
Choose your lighting wisely.
